Eleanor’s Story

I am 58 years old and I was diagnosed with Celiac disease about four years ago.

I had been suffering with diarrhea and terrible abdominal cramps.

Whenever my husband and I would go out to a restaurant for dinner, I would have awful cramps afterwards or even throw up as soon as we left the restaurant.

The family doctor prescribed pills for irritable bowel but they didn’t help at all.

He finally sent me to a gastroenterologist who suspected Celiac disease and the tests confirmed that I did in fact have it.

The specialist told me a bit about following a gluten free diet. I had to do a lot of research into finding out exactly what this meant.

After the first few months of confusion and uncertainty, I was on the right tract.

I noticed a huge improvement in my physical well-being and energy level. I started to gain weight for the first time in my life and felt so much better.

Before my diagnosis I had always been underweight, tired and depressed quite often. I had been on iron pills ever since I was a teenager.

After a few months on the gluten free diet, the doctor did a follow up blood test and took me off iron.

My body is now properly absorbing all the nutrients from the food I eat and I feel so much better.
