Carole’s Story

Hi Peter,

My name is Carole …….I was a teacher for over 20 years and always had a problem with what the doctors all called IBS.

I would get expensive anti spasmodic prescriptions and of course it slowed things down.

When the prescription was gone I did not renew. This went on for years, Finally Imodiun AD and other anti Diarrheal tablets could be purchased over the counter.

They helped but never got to the cause. Cramping and the horrible feeling of food rushing through the upper intestinal track was so embarrassing and I would make sure the bathrooms at school were empty before I would go in.

If some one was in one of the stalls I washed my hands and came back later.
Fortunately my classroom was right across from the ladies bathroom. I could see when it was most likely empty.

Recently I turned 75 years of age and my daughter had QVC cruise tickets to the Caribbean. My birthday present. Can you believe the lady sitting at our table was a Celiac patient!

Her husband had called ahead and ordered all her food to be gluten free. They brought her food first and we all sat there and wondered why. She finally addressed the situation.

I was just overwhelmed as I got to know her in the seven days we travelled. I was so ignorant of Celiac disease and didn’t really understand at first what “gluten free” really meant..

I thought a lot about her upon my return home. I was due at the doctor’s office and was being set up for some blood tests. I asked for the Celiac test to be included.

My Doctor raised one eyebrow but said “sure”. My blood test came back with a italics underlying “very high reaction” for Antigliadin Abs,igG.

I immediately stopped all wheat, rye and barley and in 24 hours I was as normal as a ten year old. I have not had a watery stool since then nor cramps in the stomach.

This is not only a physical relief but a mental relief.

I am sure my mother had it but in those days no one talked about elimination but we heard her often in the bathroom. She died of pancreatic cancer.

My research tells me that is one of the common cancers that develop due to lack of absorption of needed nutrients to the pancreas.

My sister now has intestinal bowel cancer and she had the opposite symptoms.. Constipation.

I do not know if I am too late to avoid these consequences but for what ever time my life has left it is so wonderful to go to the bathroom and be normal and not have to clean a toilet before I leave a bathroom.

This is a story with a wonderful ending for however long I live. Thank you for all the information and recipes I receive. It is a new challenge and I am up for it. My husband is very supportive.

We delivered dozens of canned good to the food bank when he found wheat in the product.

Your friend, Carole
